True North Steel and the Daly Ditch team approached Glacier Precast to help them upgrade their 100-year-old wood-built structure and bridge system, which transports water from the Skalkaho Pass to farmers and users in the Hamilton area. The team only had from mid-November to March 15th to install the new structures and steel piping.
In January 2023, Glacier Precast started a dialogue with the team. The initial drawings that the engineer designed would have weighed some 65,000 odd pounds, been over width, and been undeliverable. We discussed with them and proposed a way to split the structures in half so that we could ship them to the job site and still achieve their goals.
In April 2023, the team told us about the like-out plans and to make shop drawings. We designed these structures in-house and, through a couple of revisions, got the drawings approved and a plan to build and ship the items to the Daly Ditch team.
Glacier Precast started to make these structures in September and completed the last pieces in early November of 2023.
The Daly Ditch team installed everything over the 23-24 winter and started up the system on time and well under budget in March 2024. The customer and end users are happy with the upgrades and improvements.
This was a fun and challenging one-off project. We are glad our team was able to help the customers in the Hamilton area.
