How a concrete septic tank is installed
Because a residential concrete tank weighs several thousand pounds, it ships and sets on a crane truck rather than a trailer. The install sequence is straightforward when the tank arrives ready: the excavation is dug and a compacted bedding base is prepared, the tank is set level into the hole in one controlled lift, the inlet and outlet are connected, the tank is backfilled evenly, and the system is water-tested before it goes into service.
The single most important step is the level set on a proper base. A tank cradled evenly on compacted bedding carries its load across the whole floor; a tank resting on a high spot or a buried rock concentrates stress and is where avoidable cracks start. How a septic system is designed for your site

Two site factors drive the design more than any other: how many bedrooms the house has, which sets the flow the system must handle, and how well your soil drains, which sets the size and type of drainfield.

When you need a traffic-rated tank
A standard residential tank and its lids are built for foot traffic and soil cover, not vehicle loads. Any time a driveway, parking area, or equipment path crosses the tank or its access lids, the tank has to be traffic-rated, typically to the AASHTO HS-20 highway loading standard. A traffic-rated build uses heavier reinforcement and stronger lids to carry that wheel load.
